So here is a cool story. Not too long ago I commented on this post at Fat Cyclist written by guest Tim Joe Comstock. Tim Joe is a talented writer and as a fellow cyclist I really enjoyed his post.
Tim Joe noticed my comment (one of more than 100) and checked out my blog. He happened on my Open Letter to RIcky Gervais and I loved what he had to say. Here it is without edit:
Brother Z:
As I settle down to Act Three of the Old Tim Joe Show I am starting to get my Jesus back. This Era of Poverty has been a huge help. Giving unto Caesar can keep one so pissed off and confused that you find your soul mowing the lilies rather than observing them.
After some extended time walking alone through the Valley I am just starting to wake up to the fact that I am once again finding out what I already knew and that I was only kidding myself about being alone.
Why do I suspect that you and your readers will understand WTF I am talking about?
Either way, I linked through from your comment on Fat Cyclist and your Ricky G. thing struck a chord. I have a lot of stockpiled notes about this whole marketing of Christ thing (otherwise called Christianity) that would fill, well, volumes. Meanwhile, if I restrict my reading to MML&J and just skip the rest of that claptrap that resulted in a used camel salesman named Paul becoming the Boss of Christianity I find that Jesus Is Just Alright With Me.
OK then...TJ
Man, that is one of my favorite comments ever. It reminds me of the years I spent on Wednesday nights at a local bar discussing Jesus with folks instead of going to prayer meeting. It reminds me of the people Jesus seemed to perfer spending time with when he hung out.
Tim Joe, I'd say it is OK if you prefer MML &J. My friend Tony Campolo says if we follow the words of Christ, the red letters in the four gospels, we can do pretty well. Yes, I agree. Jesus is Just Alright With Me, too.
