Yesterday morning during the rain storm we had an interesting thing happen. A UPS freight truck showed up and the driver said that he had a 175 pound crate for Earl Brewington. After a bit of wrestling the crate was wrangled off the truck and deposited in the office. We all wondered what it could be. Was it a special award? Was it a prize? Was it a gift? My guess that it was a leg lamp was incorrect. If you are interested in finding out....

When the Team Missio Dei guys ride or spin there always seems to be one or two guys having "seat issues". Now, I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I know it involves a desire for a wider, plusher accommodation for the behind. Last evening I was flipping through a catalog and there it was....the ultimate solution! Sugar Dave and Bill "The Counselor" Ryan, I present to you The Dream Machine!
Take a few minutes to check it out on the web site link. Make extra sure you watch the video! Let me point out these features that you will love:
Go ahead. Do it. You deserve it. You can thank me later.

On Saturday night we had dinner and spent the evening with new friends. It was fun to exchange some of the stories of our lives as we got to know each other better. I mentioned that I had a wonderful, but wacky step-grandmother who sent "surprise boxes" for Christmas and birthdays that always included a deck of playing cards and an item made with plastic canvas. Paul mentioned that he once received a brick covered in plastic canvas. In some circles, that would be called a deluxe doorstop.
It turns out the plastic canvas industry is alive and well. In fact, you can order a whole pattern book just for making doorstops. Check out this description:
Here are some wonderful ways to deal with that age-old hassle of propping open a door. These seven doorstops are fun to make, delightfully decorative, and quite practical! They have been created by a super group of designers. Actually, these projects also make terrific bookends, table decorations or shelf sitters.
Wow! Not only has the plastic canvas industry solved the perplexing problem of holding open a wayward door, they also have at least one super group! You can order your pattern book here.

It's a Sunday night and we are wrapping up the weekend. It's good to be home. It's good to just hang out and be. Denine had a women's get together late afternoon and I had some time to just ponder and reflect while I worked on dinner.
I've done quite a bit of thinking lately. Some of it is big stuff and some of it not so big. But then, that's what we do sometimes, isn't it? Here are a few thoughts I'll share:
-Isn't it time we stop thinking government should fix our problems and take on more responsibility ourselves? This video shows what I mean more that I can say in words. So world hunger is not your thing? I could argue that it is, but instead I'll say just do one thing to help one problem. Anything. A local thing. If you can't think of anything I'll be happy to help you find your thing.
-My Jewish friend Lynn broke his neck in a skiing accident two weekends ago. Recovery is going to take months, but he is determined and I know he will fight his hardest for full recovery. He's been in my prayers and he knows that. We share the same God, but I follow Christ. I enjoy the moments when we discuss our differences.
-How is it that Christ was a subversive counterculture man when he walked the earth, but believers spend so much time being legalistic and creating rules about how we worship or how we pray or how we sing or? Last winter my friend Cole told me that many Christians are hypocrites. I agreed and said that I was sorry. I'm thinking we are going to need to do a whole lot more of that one person at a time (because we can't fix the church ourselves). Don't misunderstand me. Christ-followers need to worship, pray, and sing. We just need to remember the ways of Christ.
There is more, but I'm wondering if posting this it too self indulgent. Be well and enjoy life. Regular programming to return tomorrow.

My good friend Ivan sent this photo of Karl and Evelyn at the Lantern Festival in Taichung, Taiwan. The Lantern Festival is also known as the Little New Year since it marks the end of the series of celebrations starting from the Chinese New Year.
Ivan always says little Karl is laid back and Evelyn is a live wire. You can't tell from the photo, can you? I always appreciate seeing photos of Ivan and Vivian's kids. Expressions of wonder and joy are universal.
In case you are wondering, as we learned at the Chinese New Year parade in Hawaii, it's The Year of The Rat. It is considered the "best year" in the Chinese Zodiac. Evidently mice are close enough, so "Mickey & Minnie" will have a nice year in Asia.
