The Morning Commute

I love the mornings that it works out to commute to the office by bike. This morning was one of those days. The air was clean and cool. The sky was clear and blue. The sun was mostly behind me so I saw my shadow on the road for much of the ride. The new growth of spring sparkled with gold reflection as it dropped the night dew and welcomed the morning sun. I drifted off in thoughts about the day as I found my cadence and tapped out rhythm going up the road. It was already a good day by the time I arrived for work.

Pepperoni is the new bacon? Really?!

I heard something on the radio this morning that stopped me in my tracks. Evidently Subway management has been sniffing the flatbread (which also explains the whole FreshBuzz thing) and has decided to promote "Pepperoni is the new bacon!". Really? OH, REALLY?! No way, my friend. No way.

What happened? Was there a global excess of pepperoni that Subway cashed in on and now has to move? What could possibly lead to this line of reasoning? Is pepperoni jealous of bacon? Sure these meat sticks are salty and tasty, but give me a break. I like pepperoni as much as the next man, but it is no bacon. Check this out!

Things Bacon Can Do That Pepperoni Can Not Do:

• Pair with chocolate for crazy good desert. Pepperoni has not even thought about desert!
• Become very good friends with eggs and toast
• Have a great nickname like "Meat Candy" or "Pig Candy"
• Clearly state it comes from the premium part of the pig, the magical beast. I read that pepperoni usually includes beef as well as pig. Bacon would never stand for that!
• Turn a Good Burger into a Great Burger
• Pepperoniase? There is no way that is going to happen!

I believe my work here is done. When I travel I attempt to avoid fast food and I indeed stop by Subway locations often to purchase a fresh & healthy meal. I just hope Subway comes to their senses and does away with this pepperoni madness before their stock drops and they are placed in economic peril.

Sorry Pepperoni. You lose.

Athens Twilight Crit

Denine helped me with an exhibitor's tent for our new ID4Sports.com products at the Athens Twilight Crit this past Friday and Saturday. We both love Athens, but we would have loved it even more if the 2 inches of rain had not arrived for all day Saturday. We did meet some nice folks along the way and at least it was not snow or ice....
