This scene from "Walk the Line" has been brought to my attention 3 or 4 times recently. Watch it now. Did you catch how the topic is about way more than a song? Which is more interesting...doing it the same old way or singing & speaking from the soul?

We have become so conditioned to leading safe lives. We are brainwashed to not take chances. Don't stand out. Don't be different. Blend in and keep your head down. Man, who made these rules?

In the same way faith for believers has become safe. Kneel at the alter, get a bible, get baptised, go to church, give, dress up for the big holidays, and go to lunch with family right after church. And whatever you do, don't change from the regular order of worship, but that just isn't how we do it. If we get a little crazy and attend a "contemporary service" let's not forget that we start with an upbeat tune and the slow, meaningful one is right before the last song. Put it in a box and make it a rule...because that is how we do it here. Sigh.

Jesus came to teach a another way to live. The faith he taught was radical and free. It was not based following the same old rules and doing "it" the same old way week after week. He honored the story of the past with the way of the future.

Did you ever notice no two days were the same for Christ and his follows? Did you ever notice the passion for life? Jesus did not defy leadership just to tick them off. He was teaching a new way of living. He was teaching about a life filled with adventure, passion, and a new song.

Are you ready to stop singing that same old song? The usual one? The normal one?

How about a brand new song? Your song. Where is your song? It is in you. Yes, it is there. It is good and it is soul satisfying. Let's hear it. Now.
